SBS blocks that will be sewn first

Printed all 140 blocks of SBS sampler, look through them and identify blocks that can be completed easily . So here is the list.. How about 2 rows per week ? So I am giving myself till middle of March to complete these blocks..Am I too ambitious?…

Source of pattern online for SBS quilt

Other than the book, today I discover this website where you can download the pattern for most blocks in SBS for free. Currently JinnyBeyer.com  has about 200 classic quilt patterns which we can download  in pdf format. These pattern may be in 6”, 8” 10” or 12” varying based on the pattern. Other than that you can download instruction how to complete this pattern.

Other than that, this site offer a design board so that you can select a pattern and see how the pattern look like before you commit into choosing a pattern.

So for quilters, who do not own the SBS  book, you can download some of the instruction to complete the block here or replace the unfavourable block from this pattern.

Quilt Sampler

Sudah lama saya berangan untuk buat quilt sampler. Every time tengok gambar yang berkaitan, hasrat untuk membuatnya naik tinggi, tapi takut tak habis tambahan pula dengan kekangan masa yang ada. Tapi saya nak juga buat satu quit sampler yang akan mengingatkan saya zaman buat PhD . So every journey will start with the first step. In this case the first step is choosing the sampler. There are 4 quilt sampler yang famous. Jom kita lihat contoh setiap satu.

1) Dear Jane sampler

Kaedah membuat sample ini ini dibukukan dalam buku bertajuk Dear Jane yang menggabungkan traditional blocks and the pyramid blocks. Total all blocks is about 220 (ehm banyak tu)

2) Dear Hannah sampler

Seperti Dear Jane, the border of Dear Hannah juga dibuat dari applique pyramid block tapi dengan motif yang lebih modern. Pattern bagi sampler dear Hannah juga dibukukan dalam buku ini.

3) Dutch Trade Sampler

Satu lagi quilt sampler yang sama ialah Dutch Trade Sampler dimana keseluruhan 196 block dibuat dengan menggunakan applique pattern. Pada asalnya quilt ini berwarna biru seperti contoh yang dipaparkan dalam buku ini.

Walaupun cantik motif ini, I dont think I have the passion untuk buat all the applique yet. Menariknya bila ada quilters yang menggabungkan pattern dari ketiga-tiga sampler dalam satu quilt seperti sampler ini. Wah tabiklah kat quilters ni…

4) "The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt"

Another interesting sampler. This book is being published since 2009, so ada banyak groups that are currently busy untuk buat this sampler. Infact kalau rajin boleh download the whole pattern from this link. Personally I think the bloks are slightly complicated, too many small pieces to be joined together after we cut them out.  .

5) Sylvias Bridal sampler

Saya suka sampler yang ini. Rasanya ianya mengabungkan patchwork instead of applique dalam keseluruhan 140 blok yang digunakan. Tambahan pula blok yang digunakan lebih besar (6 in yang lain 4 in). Kaedah membuat block ini dinyatakan dalam buku ini
